New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will be sidelined for a third consecutive game due to a neck injury, head coach Brian Daboll announced Friday.

Tyrod Taylor will again step in for Jones in Sunday's contest with the New York Jets.

Daboll was noncommittal when asked if Jones will return this season.

Jones said Tuesday that he hoped to return in Week 8 but was "still working through" his neck ailment. He added that he's still to be cleared for contact despite being able to do everything from a physical standpoint.

The 34-year-old Taylor guided New York to its second victory of the campaign in Week 7 against the Washington Commanders. The Taylor-led Giants also played the Buffalo Bills close in a 14-9 loss the week before, though the offense failed to find the end zone.

Jones - who missed six games in 2021 with a neck injury - initially said he felt fine after being hurt in the Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The former first-round pick signed a four-year, $160-million extension in March after completing 67.2% of his passes for a career-high 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns against five interceptions in 2022. He also produced career-best marks in rushing yards (708) and touchdowns (seven).

However, Jones has struggled to live up to his big-money extension this season. In five games, he's thrown just 884 yards and two scores against six picks.

Meanwhile, Taylor has completed 66.3% of his passes for 571 yards and two touchdowns against zero interceptions.
