Stafford won't play vs. Packers due to thumb injury
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will miss Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers due to a thumb injury.
Brett Rypien will get the start in the Week 9 matchup.
Stafford suffered a UCL sprain in his right thumb during last week's 43-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The veteran signal-caller was expected to be a game-time decision, and head coach Sean McVay described him as day-to-day earlier in the week.
Stafford has thrown for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions while leading the Rams to a 3-5 record.
Rypien has started three games and appeared in six more during a four-year career, throwing for 820 yards and two scores against four interceptions. He spent his first three seasons with the Denver Broncos before joining L.A.
Wide receiver Puka Nacua is also active despite being listed as questionable with a knee injury.
