Report: Eagles, Cowboys, Vikings among teams eyeing Leonard
The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Minnesota Vikings are among the teams "collecting information" on free-agent linebacker Shaquille Leonard, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
However, Leonard - who was a surprising release by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday - could take time to decide on his next destination.
The three-time first-team All-Pro is free to sign with any team after clearing waivers. A club claiming Leonard would reportedly take on his $6.1-million base salary for the rest of the 2023 campaign and a $6.5-million injury guarantee for 2024.
Leonard's role with the Colts was reduced after two back surgeries in the offseason. The linebacker has 65 total tackles this season but has lacked his signature big-time plays, recording zero interceptions, forced fumbles, or sacks.
He had publicly expressed frustration with his playing time in recent weeks, and Indianapolis decided to keep him inactive for Week 12 and likely beyond before cutting him, a source told Stephen Holder of ESPN.
The 28-year-old called his release "shocking" on Tuesday.
