Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, head coach Doug Pederson announced Tuesday, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.

Pederson added that it's too early to determine if Lawrence will be able to play in Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

The quarterback sustained the injury on a fourth-down scramble in the fourth quarter of the Week 16 blowout defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lawrence underwent further testing Monday and said postgame that he immediately knew "something was off" after getting hit while going out of bounds.

The 24-year-old has endured an injury-plagued season, though he's yet to miss a game. He played through a knee injury early in the campaign before suffering a high ankle sprain in early December.

With Lawrence ailing, Jacksonville signed veteran quarterback Matt Barkley off the New York Giants' practice squad.

The Jaguars are in a tight battle for the AFC South with the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. All three teams sit at 8-7, but Jacksonville tops the division thanks to a tiebreaker advantage.
