Report: Tomlin plans on coaching Steelers in 2024
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told his players Tuesday that he plans on returning for the 2024 season, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
The report comes amid speculation that Tomlin would step away from the team. He also told his players those rumors are unfounded, Garafolo adds.
Tomlin is set to enter the final year of his contract. He's expected to address the media this week, per Garafolo.
Pittsburgh is coming off a 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round. Tomlin walked out of the postgame press conference when he was asked about his future with the club.
Tomlin was reportedly going to decide on what's next for his coaching career following the game.
The Steelers began the campaign 7-7 and were forced to start three different quarterbacks. However, they won their final three games to make the playoffs.
Tomlin has been Pittsburgh's head coach since 2007. He won a Super Bowl in 2008 but has seen limited success in the postseason since then. The Steelers have lost by a combined 68 points in their last five playoff games. Their most recent postseason win came in the 2016 season.
"Mike T's a great coach," running back Najee Harris said after the wild-card loss, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN. "But we can't put too much on Mike T. Sometimes, you just got to look at the players. Sometimes, you can't even look at the coaches. You just got to look at the players, and we didn't really execute."
