Bears release veterans Jackson, Whitehair
The Chicago Bears are releasing veteran offensive lineman Cody Whitehair and safety Eddie Jackson, the team announced Thursday.
Chicago will save approximately $21.5 million against the salary cap by releasing them, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Whitehair, 31, spent eight seasons in Chicago and earned a Pro Bowl nod during the 2018 campaign. He started 118 of the 124 games he appeared in with the team.
The 30-year-old Jackson spent the past seven seasons with the Bears after being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Kansas State product began his pro career as Chicago's starting center during his first three seasons. He became noted for his versatility after starting as an offensive guard along with lining up at center during the 2019-20 campaign before making the full-time move to guard.
Jackson started all 100 games he was available for during his time in Chicago. He recorded 459 tackles, 44 pass breakups, 15 interceptions, and 10 forced fumbles. The two-time Pro Bowler (2018, 2019) is tied with former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs for third place in franchise history with six defensive touchdowns.
