Report: Saints plan to cut Maye ahead of free agency
The New Orleans Saints have told safety Marcus Maye that he'll be released at the start of the new league year March 13, sources told Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.
The 30-year-old has been with the Saints since he signed a three-year, $22.5-million deal in 2022. He spent the first five years of his career with the New York Jets after being selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Maye battled availability issues with New Orleans. He received a three-game suspension in September for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and missed the final three contests of 2023 due to a shoulder injury. Maye only played 17 games in two years with the Saints.
New Orleans will save $7.235 million in cap space by designating Maye as a post-June 1 release, according to Over The Cap.
Maye has 409 tackles and 28 passes defended in 77 career contests.
