Burrow: Bengals 'built to beat' Chiefs

Joe Burrow said the Cincinnati Bengals are constructed to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs.

"Both teams have great players. We are kind of built to beat them," Burrow said on a live edition of the "New Heights" podcast, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.

When Burrow was introduced to do the podcast at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, fans gave him a massive ovation.

The 27-year-old is 3-1 against the Chiefs in his career, including the postseason, totaling 1,252 passing yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. The two sides met in back-to-back conference championship games in the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, with each club taking home a victory en route to the Super Bowl.

Burrow suffered a torn ligament in his wrist in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens last year, ending his campaign. He confirmed that his rehab is going smoothly this offseason.

"I'm doing the rehab every day. That's always a part of it," Burrow said earlier this week, per team reporter Geoff Hobson. "As far as my offseason training, it hasn't really affected it too much. I've been able to pretty much do everything I normally do from a lifting and conditioning standpoint. I'm in a great spot body-wise."

The Bengals' offense will look different in 2024. The team traded veteran running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans and lost offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, who took the Tennessee Titans head coaching position. They added running back Zack Moss, offensive tackle Trent Brown, and tight end Mike Gesicki to help surround Burrow with more talent.

Jake Browning started the final seven games of the 2023 season at QB, and the Bengals finished 11th in offensive success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.

"I think we just need to take that next step as an offense. Be more consistent series-to-series," Burrow said, per Hobson. "We've been pretty good game-to-game, but I think if we really want to be one of those top one to three offenses in the league, we have to be more consistent."

Cincinnati owns 10 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
