McVay expects Stafford at training camp amid contract standoff
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Tuesday that he expects quarterback Matthew Stafford to report for the start of training camp in late July, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
In April, McVay confirmed a report that the Pro Bowl quarterback requested more guaranteed money on his contract. However, the coach has since said he wants to keep those discussions "in-house."
Stafford, 36, has three years remaining on a four-year, $160-million extension he signed in 2022. He has $31 million guaranteed for the 2024 season but no guaranteed money in the final two years, per Over the Cap.
Despite Stafford's request, the star passer has joined the team for both voluntary OTAs and minicamp.
"I couldn't be more impressed with the way he's handled it, the way that he's led," McVay said. "(He's) been here every single day doing his thing, and that sure means a lot to me."
After playing just nine games in 2022 due to a spinal cord contusion and a stint in the league's concussion protocol, Stafford threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a 92.5 passer rating in 15 contests last season.
