The Chiefs are in a familiar spot as the preseason Super Bowl favorite. Kansas City has entered the season as the sole favorite to win in four of the last five years.

After two straight campaigns of the Chiefs hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Patrick Mahomes' inevitability has forced oddsmakers to assign Kansas City as the favorite.

A Chiefs victory would be the first time a team has won three straight Super Bowls in NFL history. Dynastic groups like the Patriots in the 2000s or the Cowboys and Broncos in the 1990s have earned the rare honor of winning back-to-back NFL championships, but everyone's fallen short of reaching the untouched air of three straight. A host of challengers, particularly in the AFC, are coming for Kansas City's crown.

Still, that's not dissuading bettors from placing wagers on the Chiefs to make history. More total bets and money wagered have been placed on Kansas City to win than any other team at theScore Bet and ESPN Bet.

The 49ers sit behind the Chiefs as the second favorite to win the Super Bowl and the favorite to win the NFC. San Francisco challenged Kansas City in last year's Big Game but fell short despite leading by 10.

History isn't on the 49ers' side to return to the Super Bowl. The last NFC Super Bowl loser to return to the game the following season was the 1974 Vikings. The 1971 Cowboys, 1972 Dolphins, and 2018 Patriots are the only teams to win the Super Bowl after losing it the season prior.

San Francisco is also dealing with a contract dispute impacting All-Pro tackle Trent Williams, who didn't participate in training camp and whose holdout could carry into the season.

Beyond the 49ers, the Lions are the next-highest NFC team on the oddsboard. Going from a three-win club to a 12-win squad in two years has made Detroit the NFL's darling. Fans rallied around Jared Goff's comeback story and the Lions' first playoff win since 1991.

Now, bettors expect an encore and for Detroit to advance even further in an open NFC. The Lions have the second-highest handle (money wagered) and total bets to win the Super Bowl behind the Chiefs, and 30% of all bets placed on the NFC champion are on Detroit.

The Eagles are among the NFC favorites two seasons after earning a Super Bowl appearance. Philadelphia has a loaded offense and two new coordinators, but questions surrounding Jalen Hurts and a young defense have some detractors skeptical.

In the AFC, oddsmakers see the Ravens as the Chiefs' biggest threat after an AFC Championship Game meeting last season. Lamar Jackson is one of the NFL's best regular-season quarterbacks, but his shortcomings as a passer hamper Baltimore's playoff chances.

The AFC only improved after injuries decimated championship-contending squads last season. The Bengals, who made the conference championship during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, lost Joe Burrow for the year. Cincinnati has received the most bets to win the AFC this season. The Jets, one of the AFC's favorites heading into the previous campaign, lost Aaron Rodgers four plays into the season. Both teams should contend for the conference with healthy quarterbacks.

The Bills and Texans - two franchises as hungry as any for a Super Bowl - have the same odds to win it all, tied for the fourth-best among AFC teams. Buffalo came incredibly close to beating the Chiefs in the divisional round last season, but Mahomes ultimately ended Buffalo's campaign for the third time in four years. Josh Allen lost some key offensive weapons, creating an even harder path to defeat its Kansas City kryptonite.

The Texans shockingly won a playoff game with first-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, the first rookie quarterback selected in the first round to accomplish the feat since 2009. The Texans should firmly be in the AFC's contender circle, assuming Stroud makes strides in his second year with a similar roster.

The Packers, Dolphins, and Rams are long-shot options, but you usually don't have to scroll down the oddsboard too far to find the eventual Super Bowl champ.
