New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes his club is one of the few teams in the league that can win the Lombardi Trophy this season.

"It has to be the goal," Rodgers said Wednesday, per SNY TV. "The beauty is, every single year there's 8-12 teams, maybe - probably less - but 8-12 teams that could actually do it, and we're one of those 8-12."

The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010, the longest active playoff drought in the NFL. The team hasn't made the Super Bowl since 1969, the only appearance in franchise history.

Rodgers is returning from a torn Achilles he suffered four snaps into his Jets tenure. New York's offense struggled mightily without him, finishing 31st in yards per game and last in success rate.

New York made some additions to help support Rodgers, signing wide receiver Mike Williams, tackle Tyron Smith, and guard John Simpson.

The veteran signal-caller said earlier in July that his Achilles "feels good" and he's healthy entering the 2024 campaign.

Rodgers notably skipped mandatory minicamp in June to take a vacation to Egypt. The 40-year-old confirmed he was fined for the incident, but said he has spoken to head coach Robert Saleh about it and they are on good terms. Rodgers added that he enjoyed his time in Egypt while the team practiced.

"The second-last day, we were at the pyramids and the (Great) Sphinx in a private viewing. And then we went out in the desert on camels ... not the nicest animal. I've been around llamas before, that's a big llama," Rodgers said.

Rodgers last played a full season in 2022 with the Green Bay Packers, where he threw for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns.
