Cowboys' Lawrence: 'Definitely see ourselves' winning Super Bowl
Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has his sights on raising the Lombardi Trophy as the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season.
"I'm just really trying to be where my feet are. Definitely see ourselves holding up that Super Bowl trophy at the end of the year, but right now we're in training camp. We got a lot of preparation and work to do," Lawrence said Thursday, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The Cowboys have yet to make it past the divisional round since the 1995 season, the last time the organization won the Super Bowl. Dallas and the Washington Commanders are the only clubs who haven't reached an NFC Championship Game since the 1996 season.
Dallas has posted a 12-5 record in each of the last three seasons. The Cowboys rank second in wins during that stretch (36), only behind the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (37).
The team's regular-season success has failed to translate to the playoffs, as the Cowboys are 2-5 in their last seven postseason games.
Lawrence, 32, has been with the Cowboys since they selected him in the second round of the 2014 draft. He signed a three-year, $40-million extension with $30 million guaranteed in 2022 and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
"We got a lot of young guys to bring up and make into star football players. We don't want this opportunity right here to pass us first. We want to make sure we get all those details handled, and then we'll move on to that later down the road," Lawrence added.
Lawrence has 436 tackles and 58.5 sacks in 137 career contests. The Cowboys kick off their regular season on Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Browns.
