Report: Bills waiving Olympic gold medalist Steveson
The Buffalo Bills are waiving defensive lineman Gable Steveson, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Steveson, 24, is attempting to transition to the NFL after capturing a gold medal in wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Although the defensive lineman was considered a long shot to make the 53-man roster after signing with the Bills in May, there's optimism that Steveson will latch on to Buffalo's practice roster or elsewhere, adds Garafolo.
Steveson made his debut in the Bills' preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, where he recorded a tackle and one QB pressure in 14 snaps. The Indiana native recorded three tackles and a pair of QB hits over the course of the Bills' three preseason games.
The Minnesota product rose to prominence as a two-time heavyweight champion, posting an impressive 83-2 record. Steveson signed with the WWE after his collegiate career and spent three years with the company in the developmental ranks before his release in May.
