Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Sunday that he expects running back Samaje Perine to play in Thursday's season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

The Chiefs signed Perine to the active roster after the Denver Broncos released him earlier this week.

Perine played 17 games for Denver last season, racking up 693 total yards. The 28-year-old's 455 receiving yards ranked seventh among all running backs in the NFL.

Reid also recently said he believes JuJu Smith-Schuster will be ready for the opener, per Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star. Kansas City signed the 27-year-old wideout this week following his release from the New England Patriots.

Smith-Schuster spent the 2022 season with the Chiefs, hauling in 78 receptions for 933 yards and three touchdowns.

"(Smith-Schuster) gets it," Mahomes said Sunday, per Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports. He gets how to be a pro. He works hard. He looks great out there."

Kansas City will look to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions this season.
