Cowboys' Jones dismisses calls to shake up RB depth chart
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones isn't convinced that his team needs to change its personnel at running back after two weeks.
"I like what we are with our running backs," Jones said Tuesday during his weekly interview on 105.3 The Fan, per The Dallas Morning News' Joey Hayden. "We've got good depth. We just didn't get to run them enough Sunday."
The Cowboys have accumulated 126 rushing yards between running backs Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn across two contests. Head coach and offensive play-caller Mike McCarthy has also used receivers CeeDee Lamb, KaVontae Turpin, and Brandin Cooks to diversify the club's run game.
Dallas signed four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook to its practice squad in August. The 29-year-old halfback posted four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2019-22. Yet, Jones doesn't see the veteran being elevated to the active roster now.
"I don't necessarily see a change that would involve Cook this week," Jones said.
Jones also refuted that Dallas should be interested in acquiring a tailback in a trade or signing a free agent.
Dallas is averaging 85 rushing yards per game (25th in the NFL) and 3.7 yards per attempt through two games.
The Cowboys (1-1) host the Baltimore Ravens (0-2) on Sunday.
