Report: Carr set to miss multiple games due to oblique injury
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is expected to miss multiple games with an oblique injury he sustained during Monday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
The four-time Pro Bowl passer exited Monday Night Football in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit.
Carr became the 25th player in NFL history to surpass 40,000 career passing yards before leaving the game. He completed 18 of 28 pass attempts for 165 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Jake Haener replaced Carr under center, passing for 17 yards and gaining 11 yards on the ground.
Carr is unlikely to be available for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the team's Week 7 matchup against the Denver Broncos, per Garafolo and Rapoport.
Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler is a strong candidate to start in Carr's absence, Garafolo and Rapoport report. The 2024 fifth-round pick is listed as the second-team quarterback alongside Haener on the Saints' depth chart.
Monday's 26-13 defeat to the Chiefs marked the third consecutive loss for the Saints after beginning their 2024 season 2-0. New Orleans has struggled to maintain its prolific offensive output after averaging 45.5 points in routs over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.
Carr has thrown for 989 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions while posting a 70.3% completion rate through the first five games of his 11th NFL campaign.
