Daniels dismisses Lamar comparison: 'We're 2 different players'
Both quarterbacks might be dual-threat passers, but Washington Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels isn't a fan of the comparisons with Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson.
"I don't like when people try to compare me to Lamar and vice versa," Daniels said Wednesday ahead of the Commanders' Week 6 road matchup versus the Ravens on Sunday. "We're two different players."
Daniels added: "You can always learn from other quarterbacks in the league - I'm not closed-minded. I always want to be able to grow. But at the end of the day, I want to be known as Jayden Daniels and not the next such and such."
Daniels has drawn comparisons to the two-time NFL MVP through his first five games due to his ability to make big plays with his arm or legs. The LSU product has thrown for 1,135 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions while posting an NFL-best 77.1% completion rate. Daniels also has 300 rushing yards and four scores.
Despite the obvious comparisons between the two, Jackson defended Daniels in wanting to separate himself from the three-time Pro Bowler.
"He's his own player," Jackson said, according to ESPN's John Keim. "At the end of the day, we're trying to make a name by ourself, not anyone else."
Washington winning Sunday would mark the franchise's first 5-1 start since 1996.
