Browns' Chubb has 'unfinished business' ahead of expected return
Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb penned a heartfelt letter to fans ahead of his expected return to the lineup.
"I've tried to work my ass off every day to get us where we need to go, and even though we have gotten close, I feel like I have serious unfinished business," Chubb wrote in a letter posted on The Players' Tribune. "That's why it hurt me so bad to go down last season. We were just starting to cook."
The four-time Pro Bowl halfback began the campaign on the PUP list after he sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He underwent a pair of procedures to repair several ligaments in his left knee. It marked the second significant leg injury of Chubb's career after he tore his MCL, PCL, and LCL while playing for Georgia in 2015.
Chubb also expressed his appreciation for the franchise for sticking with him and shared he's highly motivated ahead of his return.
"I can't stop until I prove to everybody that I'm the undisputed best running back in this league, and I definitely can't stop until we get the Browns back to the top of the AFC. It's been too damn long," Chubb wrote.
The Browns opened the 21-day practice window for Chubb last month. The star tailback is expected to make his season debut on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, a source told ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.
Cleveland's offense is in desperate need of a spark as it enters Week 7 with a 1-5 record. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been sacked a league-high 31 times, and the team traded star receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.
Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman, and Pierre Strong have led the way for the Browns' rushing attack to begin the season. Cleveland is averaging 4.3 yards per carry and 97.2 rushing yards per contest.
Chubb has rushed for 6,511 yards and 48 touchdowns over six seasons in Cleveland, including four consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns from 2019-22.
