Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to miss multiple weeks due to a hamstring injury he sustained against the Atlanta Falcons, sources told Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The injury is worse than initially feared and isn't expected to be short term, Rapoport and Pelissero report.

Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Prescott will miss a Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles but didn't provide a full timeline, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

McCarthy added that Prescott could be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least four weeks.

Prescott exited the team's Week 9 loss in the third quarter after attempting a pass. The veteran signal-caller spent time in the medical tent and didn't return. Backup Cooper Rush finished the game.

"I felt something pull. I felt something I've never felt," Prescott said after the contest, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Rush completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in relief of Prescott. The 30-year-old is 5-1 as a starter, throwing for 1,786 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions during his seven-year career. Dallas also has 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance on the roster.

Prescott played in every game last season but missed five contests in 2022 due to a thumb injury. After a tremendous 2023 campaign, Prescott and the Cowboys' offense have struggled to produce consistently this year. Out of 27 signal-callers with at least 200 snaps this season, Prescott ranks 21st in EPA/play and 20th in success rate, per Ben Baldwin's database.

The 3-5 Cowboys will face off against the 6-2 Eagles on Sunday.
