Sirianni: Hurts dealing with ankle injury
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Friday that quarterback Jalen Hurts is "dealing with the ankle," according to ESPN's Tim McManus.
Sirianni's remarks contradict the team's injury report from earlier in the week.
Hurts was listed as a limited participant and given a "rest" designation Wednesday after not partaking in the team's practice session. Backups Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee went through the team drills. The two-time Pro Bowler was reportedly prohibited from dropping back and planting during individual drills Wednesday but was spotted throwing the ball during the team's walkthrough later in the day.
When Sirianni was made aware of the discrepancy between his comments and Wednesday's injury designation, he retracted his statement and said Hurts was on the report due to rest, according to PHLY's Zach Berman.
Hurts was a full participant at practice Thursday and Friday and is trending toward playing Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. He was not given an injury designation in the team's final injury report.
The quarterback has been dealing with a mild ankle issue for a couple of weeks, a source told McManus. The ailment has also reportedly been described as "lower leg soreness," which led the team to employ a load management approach.
"I just do what I'm told," Hurts said when asked about how the team planned his rest day.
The Eagles enter Sunday's NFC East matchup riding a four-game winning streak. Hurts has thrown for 1,774 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's completing 69.8% of his pass attempts and hasn't thrown an interception in his last five starts. He's also rushed for 322 yards and eight scores.
