Report: Jaguars eyeing significant changes pending result vs. Lions

The Jacksonville Jaguars are considering making significant changes to both their coaching staff and front office next week, pending the result of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Team personnel wouldn't be surprised if the club moved on from head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke as it's believed significant changes are almost inevitable, according to Rapoport.

Next week's bye could serve as an opportune time for the franchise to re-evaluate.

Jacksonville has underwhelmed with a 2-8 record entering Sunday's contest and is on pace to finish last in the AFC South.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has struggled throughout the season after signing a five-year, $275-million extension in June. Arik Armstead, Gabe Davis, and Darnell Savage signed as key free agents with the Jaguars this offseason.

Pederson has a 20-24 record in two-plus seasons with the Jaguars and helped the club capture a division title and playoff berth in his first campaign with the club in 2022. Jacksonville has posted back-to-back 9-8 seasons in 2022 and '23.

Quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy is considered a prime candidate to serve as the interim head coach if the franchise dismisses Pederson after previously serving as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers (2013-16), according to Rapoport.

Mac Jones will lead the Jaguars against the Lions after Lawrence was ruled out for the second straight week due to a left shoulder injury.
