Chase frustrated with late-game woes: 'Ask Zac, ask the coaches'
Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is frustrated after his team failed to win another close game Sunday night.
"I don't know," Chase said when asked how the team can better finish games, according to Olivia Ray of WLWT. "Ask (head coach Zac Taylor), ask the coaches. Don't ask me, that's not my job."
He added: "I play football on the field, I don't call plays for us. I can't really do nothing."
The Bengals fell to 4-7 after their 34-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. They were down 24-6 at halftime after the Chargers scored on four of their five first-half possessions.
Cincinnati clawed back to tie the game early in the fourth quarter but missed two go-ahead field goals late in the contest. Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins ran for a 29-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left to ice the game.
"(Evan McPherson) knows to make those kicks," Chase said. "That's why we pay him those bucks, to make those kicks."
Quarterback Joe Burrow had another strong performance, throwing for 365 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He leads the league in completions (274), passing yards (3,028), and touchdowns (27) after 11 games but has only four wins to show for it.
Burrow told reporters after the contest this is the most frustrating season he's had in the NFL.
"Just gotta make the plays, just gotta make the plays," Burrow said, per Karl Rasmussen of Sports Illustrated. "Down the stretch ... our margin of error is slim. So, we gotta make those plays. I gotta make those plays, we all gotta make those plays."
Six of Cincinnati's seven losses have come by one score. The team has a bye week before playing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 1.
