The San Francisco 49ers are planning to lock up quarterback Brock Purdy on a long-term extension this offseason, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Despite a disappointing season, San Francisco still believes Purdy is the team's signal-caller of the future, Rapoport adds. The 49ers are 5-7 heading into Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Purdy is in his third year of the rookie contract he signed when the 49ers selected him with the last pick in the 2022 draft. He's projected to have a $1.1-million base salary in 2025, according to Over the Cap. Purdy's rookie contract has a total value of $3.7 million.

The 25-year-old has 2,707 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. Purdy ranks eighth in EPA/play and success rate out of 34 quarterbacks who've taken at least 225 snaps this season, according to Ben Baldwin's database.

Purdy excelled last year, leading the league in passer rating (113), quarterback rating (72.8), and yards per pass attempt. He also finished fourth in MVP voting and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott is the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL after signing a four-year, $240-million extension in September. 49ers CEO Jed York said in March he's prepared for Purdy to ask for a record-breaking extension.

San Francisco is projected to have $48 million in cap space for 2025.
