Report: Mayo expected to remain Patriots head coach for 2025
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is expected to retain head coach Jerod Mayo for the 2025 season, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Kraft has told people close to him he's committed to giving the first-year coach time and resources to grow in his role, Russini adds.
Mayo was hired in 2024 to replace longtime head boss Bill Belichick. He was the inside linebackers coach under Belichick beginning in 2019 before being promoted to head coach.
New England has a 3-10 record this season and is tied for last place in the AFC East. The team's minus-86 point differential ranks 25th in the NFL. The Patriots' defense, which was a strength under Belichick, sits 29th in EPA/play and 27th in success rate, per Ben Baldwin's database.
Quarterback Drake Maye has been a bright spot for the club this season. The 2024 third overall pick has racked up 2,041 total yards with 12 touchdowns in eight starts.
New England currently has the most cap space in the league for 2025 with $132 million, according to Over The Cap.
