Super Bowl odds: Lions remain favorites despite loss to Bills
Sunday's marquee game between the Bills and Lions had oddsmakers' full attention.
Despite losing, the Lions still hold the top seed in the NFC, and they're still the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. However, their odds lengthened from +225 to +360 on theScore Bet/ESPN Bet after they fell to 12-2 on the season.
The Eagles, meanwhile, got closer to the NFC's No. 1 seed after dominating the Steelers to win their 10th straight game and improve to 12-2. Philadelphia has the NFL's leading rushing attack and is tied for the best scoring defense, giving it a legitimate claim as the league's most complete team. As a result, the Eagles are tied with the Chiefs for the third-best odds at +450 to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Detroit has the tiebreaker over Philadelphia, giving it the top seed. But the Lions have a tougher final three games than the Eagles, and devastating injuries to defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, cornerback Carlton Davis, and running back David Montgomery could affect them down the stretch. They're currently +160 to win the NFC while the Eagles are +200, but that would flip if Philadelphia wins out and Detroit loses, giving the former home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
In the AFC, the Bills' impressive win and eighth consecutive week scoring at least 30 points improved their Super Bowl odds from +600 to +425, the second-best odds behind the Lions. Buffalo (+185) also jumped Kansas City (+200) as the favorite to win the division.
This is the first time this season K.C. is not at least the co-favorite to win the AFC. The Chiefs still hold the top seed at 13-1 while the Bills are 11-3, but the Chiefs' jump is as much about Patrick Mahomes' health as the Bills' recent success: Mahomes left Sunday's win over the Browns early with an ankle sprain. His status is uncertain, but the Chiefs are 2.5-point home underdogs against the Texans on Saturday, which indicates the star quarterback will likely sit. The Chiefs have three games in 11 days, so they'll likely be cautious with Mahomes over this tough stretch.
The Bills' win over the Lions influenced bettors to make a move: Over the last 24 hours, Buffalo has received the most Super Bowl bets and handle (money wagered). Almost half of the entire handle on the Super Bowl market has been on the Bills since Sunday morning.
Here are the Super Bowl odds for all playoff contenders.
