Steelers' Heyward: We've 'played like shit' last 3 games
Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward didn't hold back after Pittsburgh lost its third straight game on Christmas Day.
"The last three weeks, we played like shit," Heyward said, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. "Simple as that. I own that. Every player's got to own it in here."
The Steelers lost 29-10 to the Chiefs on Wednesday and have been outscored 90-40 during the three-game losing streak. Kansas City racked up 389 yards of offense, and Pittsburgh didn't register a sack on Patrick Mahomes.
Russell Wilson completed 23 of 37 passes for 208 yards and one interception. This marks the fourth straight game in which the veteran signal-caller failed to eclipse 220 passing yards after lighting up the Cincinnati Bengals for 414 yards Dec. 1. This was also the third consecutive contest in which Pittsburgh hadn't scored more than 17 points.
"That sucked. To be blunt," head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters after the loss. "Not the type of ball we want to play, and, really, kinda eerily similar to our last performance in that we're not doing the fundamental things well enough."
The Steelers are now 10-6 heading into their season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals and currently hold the No. 5 seed in the AFC. Pittsburgh will be in a playoff game for the fourth time in the last five campaigns.
"There's got to be a want to. There's not enough of that right now," Steelers edge rusher Alex Highsmith said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
"We got two guaranteed games left. We're gonna find out who wants this, you know what I mean. Everybody in this room got to want it."
