Bills' Allen to make brief start in Week 18 to maintain streak
Head coach Sean McDermott announced that the Buffalo Bills will start quarterback Josh Allen on Sunday against the New England Patriots to continue his starting streak.
"One of the things that we know is very, very important to (Allen) is his consecutive starts streak, if you will, and it's important to him for a great reason," McDermott said, according to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. "He wants to be out there with his teammates, and so he will be out there for a very, very short-lived amount of time, and then he'll be off rather quickly there."
Allen has started 104 consecutive regular-season games. He's played in every single contest since his rookie year despite battling through numerous injuries.
The 2018 seventh overall pick has produced an MVP-caliber campaign, leading the Bills to the most points (509) and touchdowns (63) in franchise history. Allen has passed for 3,731 yards, 28 TDs, and six interceptions while recording a 101.4 passer rating. He's also rushed for 531 yards and another 12 scores.
Buffalo has already clinched the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoff bracket. McDermott says the Bills plan to have a mix of normal starters and some players the team would like to take a look at Sunday.
