San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy exited late in Monday's 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions with a right elbow injury.

Team doctors attended to Purdy after he was sacked by Brian Branch with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Purdy made some light throws on the sideline but didn't return to the game.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the quarterback will undergo more testing Tuesday. He added that Purdy's status for the team's season finale against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday is up in the air.

"We think it's some nerve stuff," Shanahan said, according to the Mercury News' Cam Inman.

The third-year passer produced a career-high 377 yards to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions before exiting Monday's contest.

"Doesn't feel the best. My arm was on fire," Purdy said postgame. "Tried throwing (a) couple on (the) sideline and couldn't. Did tests with (the) UCL, but it was good in that regard."

Purdy was replaced by Joshua Dobbs, who cut the Lions lead to six points by rushing for a seven-yard score with 43 seconds left in the game. Kicker Jake Moody missed the extra point and San Francisco was unable to recover the onside kick.

Injuries have been a cause of concern for the Niners this season. San Francisco is already missing several starters, including Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, and Brandon Aiyuk.

Purdy is due for a contract extension after playing out the season with a base salary under $1 million, according to Spotrac. The Iowa State product helped the 49ers make the Super Bowl last season and sported a 23-12 record prior to Monday's contest.

Purdy has thrown for 3,487 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while recording a 65% completion rate.
