The San Francisco 49ers plan to keep wide receiver Deebo Samuel for the 2025 season, general manager John Lynch said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

They also plan to release defensive tackle Javon Hargrave with a post-June 1 designation, Lynch adds.

Samuel signed a three-year, $73.5-million extension with $58.1 million guaranteed in July 2022. He's under contract through 2025 and has a $15.9-million cap hit next season, per Over The Cap. Samuel also has a $33.1-million cap hit attached to a void year for 2026.

The 28-year-old had a disappointing 2024 season, posting only four total touchdowns in 15 games. His 670 receiving yards are the fewest in his career since he missed nine games in 2020.

Hargrave, 31, signed a four-year, $84-million deal, including $40 million guaranteed, in 2023. He suffered a season-ending triceps injury just three games into the 2024 season.

Quarterback Brock Purdy is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. He went 6-9 in 15 starts this season, throwing for 3,864 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Out of 36 qualifying signal-callers this year, Purdy ranked eighth in EPA/play, according to Ben Baldwin's database.

"What we know about Brock is that he's our guy," Lynch said Wednesday, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. "We have interest in him being around for a long, long time."

San Francisco finished last in the NFC West this season with a 6-11 record.
