Report: Bears, Saints request to interview Kingsbury
The Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints requested to interview Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury for their head coaching vacancies, according to NFL reporter Josina Anderson.
Kingsbury is in his first season as Washington's OC. He was previously USC's senior offensive analyst in 2023 and the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-22.
He went 28-37-1 with one playoff appearance over four seasons with the Cardinals. It's Kingsbury's only NFL head coaching stint to date, though he was the sideline boss at Texas Tech from 2013-18.
The Commanders hired the 45-year-old coach as offensive coordinator last February. Alongside rookie phenom Jayden Daniels and first-year head coach Dan Quinn, Kingsbury has led an offensive turnaround in Washington.
The Commanders ranked seventh in total offense and third in rushing under Kingsbury this season. Daniels is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year after leading the Commanders to their first playoff appearance since 2020.
Chicago fired head coach Matt Eberflus in November. The Saints parted ways with Dennis Allen earlier that month.
The Bears also requested to interview Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, among others. Meanwhile, New Orleans submitted requests for a list of candidates, including former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
Kingsbury previously worked with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams while both were with USC in 2023.
The Commanders take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
