Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is anticipating another prolific run for star tight end Travis Kelce as the pair get set to lead the Kansas City Chiefs into the postseason.

"I think the greats step up in the playoffs," Mahomes said Tuesday. "It's just higher intensity, and the best players and the best leaders step up and make the best plays. He's done that, and I expect the same from him going into this playoffs."

Questions about Kelce's production have followed him over the past two seasons. The Chiefs star saw his seven-season streak of 1,000 yards snapped after he sat out the team's 2023 regular-season finale. Yet, the 10-time Pro Bowler led Kansas City with 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns on the way to winning Super Bowl LVIII.

This past season Kelce tallied the fewest yards (823), yards per catch (8.5), and TDs (3) since his rookie season in 2013.

Mahomes added Kelce's presence spurs the entire team, providing an emotional boost in crucial moments.

"I think his mentality that he steps on the football field with at practice and on game day kind of resonates with the entire team and gets everybody to play their best football, and that's what it takes in order to win championships," Mahomes said.

The future Hall of Fame tight end has elevated his play during the postseason throughout his illustrious career. Kelce is the NFL's all-time playoff reception leader with 165 catches. He'll enter Saturday 342 yards behind Jerry Rice for the most playoff receiving yards ever.

The Chiefs will begin their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl title when they host the Houston Texans in the divisional round.
