Report: Jets would be Glenn's 1st choice for head coaching job

The New York Jets' head coaching job would be Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn's top choice should he be offered the role, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello.

Glenn spent eight seasons with the Jets as a player after the franchise drafted him in the first round in 1994. The former cornerback made the Pro Bowl twice while playing for New York.

The 52-year-old is in his fourth season as Lions defensive coordinator. Detroit's defense has improved its points allowed every year under Glenn, culminating with this season's seventh-ranked scoring defense. The Lions finished dead last in points allowed in 2020 before hiring Glenn.

He also has ties to the New Orleans Saints, whom he interviewed with last week. Glenn finished his playing career with New Orleans and was the team's defensive backs coach for five seasons from 2016-20.

Glenn has been one of the hottest coaching candidates this cycle.

In addition to the Jets and Saints, he's interviewed with the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. Glenn is also reportedly set to speak with the Las Vegas Raiders later this week about their coaching vacancy. He previously turned down an interview with the New England Patriots before they hired Mike Vrabel.

The Jets have interviewed several candidates, including Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, and former Jets coach Rex Ryan. New York fired Robert Saleh in October as well as general manager Joe Douglas in November.
