Report: Cowboys hold internal talks about trading Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys have held internal discussions about potentially trading star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Parsons is set to enter the final year of his rookie contract and is a candidate to receive a massive extension this offseason.

The two-time All-Pro linebacker is to make $24 million in the fifth year of his contract, according to Over the Cap. He's expected to request a salary that would place him among the league's highest-paid pass-rushers. San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa is the highest-paid edge rusher, earning an average of $34 million.

Parsons has been a defensive force since Dallas drafted him 12th overall in 2021. The 25-year-old has recorded 63 tackles for loss, 52.5 sacks, and nine forced fumbles through four seasons.

The Cowboys have prioritized negotiating extensions for core stars recently. Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $240-million extension prior to the 2024 season. CeeDee Lamb also inked a four-year, $136-million deal last offseason.

Parsons has previously stated he doesn't desire to be the highest-paid player at his position and is willing to take less money to help build a competitive team. The standout defender was receptive to the idea of the Cowboys pursuing fellow pass-rusher Myles Garrett, who requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns earlier in February.
