First-team All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. would like to remain with the Houston Texans for the remainder of his playing days as the two sides begin negotiations on a contract extension.

The Texans are expected to make an extension for Stingley a top priority this offseason, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. Houston could pick up the fifth-year option in Stingley's rookie contract, which could cost close to $17 million.

"I want to stay in Houston for the rest of my career," Stingley said on the latest episode of "The Pivot" podcast. "The deal is going to happen when it happens. We still have to take care of business. I still have to work out. I still have to be there."

Both sides are targeting a deal similar to the four-year, $96-million extension Pat Surtain signed with the Denver Broncos in September, Graziano reports. Stingley is scheduled to account for an $11-million cap hit in 2025, per Over the Cap.

The LSU product was named to the All-Pro team and received his first Pro Bowl nod after recording 54 tackles, four tackles for loss,18 passes defensed and five interceptions in 2024. He added two picks and five pass breakups during the Texans' playoff run.

Stingley posted an 84.4 coverage grade, per PFF, allowing completions on 45.3% of passes in his direction last season.

While the 2022 third overall pick posted career-best numbers, he's adamant he hasn't hit his ceiling after three seasons.

"There was a lot of plays that were left out there on the field. ... I had seven picks this year, but I could've had, like, 20," Stingley said.

Stingley isn't planning to skip team activities this offseason. The 23-year-old wants to follow the lead of wide receiver Nico Collins who participated in offseason drills before landing a three-year extension last May.

Safety Jalen Pitre is also eligible for an extension before next season.
