New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis still likes his team's chances with Derek Carr as its starting quarterback.

"We feel like we've got a guy we can win with," Loomis told reporters Wednesday at the combine, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

New Saints head coach Kellen Moore was previously noncommittal about Carr being the team's starting signal-caller next season.

"Derek's a tremendous quarterback in this league. … He's a starter in this league. He's a premier player in this league. … Really excited to team up with him and go through this process," Moore said earlier in February at his introductory press conference when asked if Carr would be the Week 1 starter.

Carr signed a four-year, $150-million contract with the Saints in 2023 after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders. He's set to carry a $51.4-million cap hit next season, while New Orleans is currently $47 million over the salary cap.

Carr has a no-trade clause in his contract and said he'd be unwilling to take a pay cut. Loomis acknowledged that the Saints' cap situation is tight, and the quarterback's contract is a contributing factor.

"There's no secret to that, and his is a big number, so we're going to hopefully be able to maneuver," Loomis said.

Carr is 14-13 as a starter across two seasons with the Saints. He went 5-5 in 2024 while missing several games due to various injuries.
