Report: Garrett 'not open to' signing extension with Browns
Money doesn't seem to be the issue between Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett is "not open to" signing a contract extension with the Browns after his trade request, a source told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.
The star pass-rusher requested to be dealt earlier this offseason, emphasizing his priority to compete for a Super Bowl ahead of an expected rebuild in Cleveland. The Browns finished 3-14 last season and hold the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Garrett has two years remaining on a five-year, $125-million extension he signed in 2020. He's scheduled to be the fifth-highest-paid edge rusher entering the 2025 season with a $25-million salary, according to Spotrac.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry has continued to express that the team has no interest in trading Garrett.
"We can't imagine a situation where not having Myles is best for the Browns," he said Tuesday at the NFL combine, per The Associated Press.
Berry previously said the Browns wouldn't even consider dealing the 29-year-old for multiple first-round picks.
Garrett has spent his entire NFL career with the Browns after the team selected him first overall in the 2017 draft. He's a four-time first-team All-Pro and won Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
The six-time Pro Bowler tallied his 100th career sack in 2024 and was again a finalist for DPOY.
Cleveland has made the playoffs only twice in eight seasons with Garrett and has just one postseason victory this century.
Fellow star pass-rushers Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys and Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions have expressed interest in teaming up with Garrett since he made his trade request public.
