Report: Eagles interested in trading for Myles Garrett

The Philadelphia Eagles are interested in trading for Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

"Garrett could be this year's version of Saquon Barkley for Howie (Roseman, the Eagles general manager)," an unidentified NFL GM told Russini. "He's an impact add and isn't a free-agent overpay. Howie's not afraid to try stuff, and it fits where they are as a team."

Garrett requested a trade earlier this offseason, citing his desire to compete for a Super Bowl. The Browns have maintained that they're not interested in moving the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. It was reported earlier this week, however, that Garrett was unwilling to sign an extension with Cleveland.

The defending champion Eagles just put forth a dominant performance in Super Bowl LIX - sacking Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times in the 40-22 victory. But they face some difficult decisions this offseason involving a group of players who were crucial in securing the Lombardi Trophy.

Linebacker Zack Baun, pass-rusher Josh Sweat, and defensive tackle Milton Williams are pending free agents. Philadelphia would likely have to let some of those players walk to afford Garrett under the salary cap if the team acquired him, Russini noted.

Garrett, 29, has two years remaining on his current deal and could be looking to sign an extension this offseason if he's traded to a new team. He's scheduled to be the fifth-highest-paid edge rusher entering the 2025 campaign.

The Eagles pulled off perhaps the most impactful move of last offseason by signing Barkley to a three-year free-agent contract. The former New York Giant became the ninth player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season and was named Offensive Player of the Year in one of the all-time greatest campaigns by a running back.
