Report: Vikings not pursuing Rodgers, rejecting trades for McCarthy
The Minnesota Vikings aren't pursuing Aaron Rodgers as they look to add a veteran quarterback behind J.J. McCarthy, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The Vikings have also rejected multiple trade calls about McCarthy and are moving forward with him as their QB1, Pelissero adds.
That leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants as the most likely landing spots for the free agent Rodgers, with both teams reportedly actively pursuing the four-time MVP.
Rodgers "is in no rush at all" to decide on the 2025 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McCarthy missed his rookie season in 2024 after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during preseason. Sam Darnold started all 17 games for Minnesota and led the club to a 14-3 record. Darnold left to join the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent this offseason.
McCarthy, 22, was the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the fifth quarterback selected. He was coming off a collegiate career in which he led Michigan to multiple College Football Playoff appearances and a national championship.
Rodgers was released by the New York Jets earlier in March after two seasons with the team. The 41-year-old threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions as the Jets missed the playoffs with a 5-12 record in 2024.
