Simmons: Door isn't 'necessarily closed' on Falcons return
Two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons isn't ruling out a return to the Atlanta Falcons next season.
"I think the organization is top-notch. I do think they're gonna be great." Simmons said during an appearance on "Up & Adams."
Simmons added, "It was a one-year thing. They like their younger guys too. Sometimes, things don't work out and you go in different directions. I don't know if the door's necessarily closed, but we'll see."
The 31-year-old also said he thinks highly of the Falcons' brass, including head coach Raheem Morris, general manager Terry Fontenot, and owner Arthur Blank.
Simmons remains a free agent after spending last year in Atlanta. He tallied 62 tackles, seven defended passes, and two interceptions in 2024. The veteran defensive back made a formidable tandem with fellow star safety Jessie Bates.
DeMarcco Hellams, who missed the entire 2024 season, could start for the team if Simmons doesn't return. The Falcons also signed Jordan Fuller to a one-year contract in March.
Simmons is also interested in a reunion with former Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio, who guided the Philadelphia Eagles' defense to a Super Bowl in February.
"Going to Philly with Vic, you know exactly what you're getting out of me, and I know exactly what I'm getting out of them because I've been in the system," Simmons said.
Simmons discussed the possibility of joining the Kansas City Chiefs as well despite the team being a longtime rival over his eight years with the Broncos.
"I'm not that incompetent to think if Kansas City wanted me to come through, I wouldn't. But I just want to beat them," Simmons said.
