Mahomes' mom reveals he almost quit football in high school
Patrick Mahomes has carved out a successful NFL career, but there was a time when the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback nearly walked away from football.
Mahomes' mother, Randi, revealed during a recent Q&A on Instagram that her son considered quitting football when he was in high school.
"There were times that he would get a little down," Randi said. "Even a moment in high school where he wanted to quit football. Yes, he did. And I encouraged him that sitting out a season of sports and watching the games, it was not gonna be fun for him. And so he stuck to it, luckily."
Mahomes attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas and was a multi-sport athlete who excelled in football, baseball, and basketball.
Through his first eight pro seasons, the 29-year-old Mahomes has won two NFL MVP awards, three Super Bowl championships, and three Super Bowl MVPs. He's also the Chiefs' all-time leader in passing yards (32,352) and touchdown passes (245).
