Report: Titans not expected to trade No. 1 pick
The consensus around the league is the Tennessee Titans will stay at No. 1 overall and make a selection Thursday night rather than trade the pick, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Tennessee received genuine trade interest for the top selection but "never opened the door," a source told Rapoport.
Miami quarterback Cam Ward is projected to be selected No. 1 overall. The Titans reportedly became impressed with him after the Hurricanes' pro day in late March and scheduled an additional private workout with the signal-caller.
Ward is considered the top quarterback in the draft. He began his college career at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State in 2022. He ultimately committed to the Hurricanes two years later and became Miami's starter for the 2024 campaign.
The 22-year-old shined in his only season with the Hurricanes, throwing for 4,313 yards with a college football-leading 39 touchdowns. He also ranked first among all signal-callers in quarterback rating (88.8) and EPA generated (103.2), according to ESPN analytics.
Tennessee's primary starter in 2024, Will Levis, finished last in success rate among 32 qualified quarterbacks last season. The Titans' offense struggled in the previous two campaigns, ranking 30th in EPA/play across the league during that stretch, per Ben Baldwin's database.
