Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Saturday that Travis Hunter will get his first reps on the defensive side of the ball next week.

"We just kind of ended up making a decision that, from yesterday to today, we wanted to be able to clean up some of the things that we may have been able to miss yesterday [and] get extra reps on the offensive side of the ball," Coen stated after the team workout, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco. "And, next week, he'll start to roll on defense."

Hunter has been studying Jacksonville's offensive and defensive playbooks since joining the organization. The Jaguars sent a package of draft picks to Cleveland in a blockbuster draft-day trade that included their 2026 first-round selection. Coen added that the plan was to focus Hunter's reps on the offensive side first because of the complexity of the terminology and the system.

The 21-year-old played 700-plus snaps on both sides of the ball last season.

"You've just got to get used to it," Hunter said. "It just has a lot of different types of calls, but other than that, the defense is pretty easy. You've just got to get used to the offense."

Hunter will play a key role in Jacksonville's overhauled wide receiver room in 2025 after the Jaguars released Gabe Davis and traded Christian Kirk to the Houston Texans this offseason.

The 2024 Heisman winner hauled in 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions and 11 passes defended in 2024.
