Belichick recalls spending $5K on 'special milk' for Brady
Bill Belichick went to interesting lengths to keep Tom Brady happy during their time together with the New England Patriots.
During an appearance on "The Pivot Podcast," Belichick shared a story from his new book, "The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football," that involved him dropping $5,000 on milk to ensure Brady remained on good terms with teammate Antonio Brown.
"Tom had Antonio come and stay at his house, wanted to embrace him, bring him onto the team, so forth," the former Patriots head coach recalled.
He continued: "Antonio ordered milk. He ordered this special milk for Brady, cost $5,000. Five thousand dollars. And to make a long story short, it kind of got mixed up and ended up in the mail room for too long, and ... the milk went bad.
"So here we are sitting here with milk ... we go out and get $5,000 worth of milk, this special milk, and give it to Brady from Antonio. So now we turn in an expense report, like, $5,000 worth of milk. But you know what? Sometimes, you gotta just do the right thing, and I didn't want to ruin the relationship between Brown and Brady on this spoiled milk."
Brown was on the Patriots' roster for just 13 days in 2019 before being cut by the team. He reunited with Brady the following season in Tampa Bay, where the two won a Super Bowl championship together.
Belichick, 73, was hired as the new head coach of North Carolina in December.
