Report: Steelers ink DeShon Elliott to 2-year, $12.5M extension
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed safety DeShon Elliott to a two-year, $12.5-million contract extension Monday, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Elliott's new deal includes $9.21 million guaranteed, Pelissero adds. The 28-year-old was entering the final season of his current two-year pact after signing with Pittsburgh prior to the 2024 campaign, according to Over the Cap.
The Texas product exceeded expectations in his first season with the Steelers, posting a career-high 108 tackles. He also added six passes defended, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one interception.
Elliott found a home in Pittsburgh's secondary after beginning his career with the Baltimore Ravens, followed by stints with the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
With the extension, the Steelers lock in one of their veteran pieces in a defensive secondary featuring Minkah Fitzpatrick, Joey Porter Jr., and free-agent signee Darius Slay.
The Steelers continue to negotiate with star pass-rusher T.J. Watt, who skipped Pittsburgh's mandatory minicamp last week amid his desire for a new deal. Watt is entering the final year of a four-year, $112-million extension he signed in 2021.
