Steelers' Slay: Rodgers' arm strength 'still there'

Steelers cornerback Darius Slay has been impressed with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the short time they've been together in Pittsburgh.

"It's not no coverage he's seen, not nothing he don't know," Slay told ESPN's Mina Kimes. "So that's just great for us. I've been playing against him - we was in the same division for eight years. I done played him over 20-30 times. Man, he's still doing what he does."

Rodgers signed a one-year deal with $10 million fully guaranteed in June and is projected to be the Steelers' starting signal-caller in 2025. The agreement came after months of speculation about whether Rodgers would retire or continue playing after a two-year stint with the New York Jets.

The 41-year-old will be tasked with turning around a Steelers passing attack that's struggled to get consistent production in recent years. Over the last two campaigns, Pittsburgh's ranked 23rd in EPA per dropback, according to Ben Baldwin's database.

Rodgers got off to a slow start last season but was able to finish the year strongly. Over the last five contests of the 2024 campaign, the four-time MVP threw for a combined 1,270 yards with nine touchdowns and a 98.3 passer rating.

"His arm strength's still there," Slay said. "Of course, it's not like he's 20, but it's still the fact that he can still get the ball to a position where the receiver can make a play on it."

Slay, 34, joined the Steelers on a one-year deal this offseason after spending the last five campaigns with the Philadelphia Eagles.
