Deion: Shedeur will start for Browns in 2025
Deion Sanders believes his son Shedeur Sanders will have the opportunity to start for the Cleveland Browns in 2025.
"Be patient and be ready," Deion told the "New Heights" podcast when asked for the best advice he's given Shedeur so far. The Colorado coach added, "You got to be ready when it's time. But when it's time, you're going to know.
"And it's coming up. I got a prediction. I ain't telling nobody. I got a feeling when it's going to go down. But it's going to go down this year. ... He's going to get a shot."
Shedeur has yet to see the field in the regular season after being selected in the fifth round of the 2025 draft. He's been listed as the third signal-caller on the Browns' depth chart behind fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel and starter Joe Flacco.
Cleveland got its first win of the season Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, but the offense has struggled under Flacco through three games. The Browns are averaging 15.3 points per game heading into Week 4 and rank 29th in EPA/play and success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees weighed the possibility of starting Gabriel over Flacco against Green Bay, sources told Browns reporter Brad Stainbrook. The veteran ultimately got the nod, completing 21 passes for 142 yards and one interception with a 55.6 passer rating. Stefanski said after the win that Flacco would start in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.
Shedeur started the Browns' first preseason game, totaling 157 yards and two touchdowns. However, he missed their second game due to an oblique injury and struggled in Cleveland's final preseason contest, completing three passes and getting sacked five times.
