Giants fire DC Bowen
The New York Giants fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, the team announced Monday.
Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen was named interim defensive coordinator.
Interim head coach Mike Kafka said he consulted general manager Joe Schoen on Bowen's dismissal and Bullen's promotion, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
"I felt like today was the right time," Kafka said, adding that he'd reviewed film of the Giants' recent defensive performances, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Bowen's exit follows Sunday's 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions. The 38-year-old was hired in February 2024 following a three-year stint as the Tennessee Titans' defensive coordinator.
This season, New York has lost five road games in which it led by double digits in the fourth quarter.
Two weeks ago, the club fired head coach Brian Daboll, who opted not to dismiss Bowen following late-game collapses versus the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. New York elevated its offensive coordinator, Kafka, to interim coach after Daboll's firing Nov. 10.
The Giants rank 30th in total yards allowed per game (385) and points allowed per game (27.8).
