The New England Patriots informed four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs that he'll be released at the start of the new league year, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Diggs was set to receive $6 million in fully guaranteed money on March 13, Pelissero adds.

The 32-year-old joined the Patriots last offseason after signing a three-year, $63.5-million contract as a free agent.

Diggs established himself as New England's top receiving threat last season after tearing his ACL the year prior as a member of the Houston Texans. He led the Patriots in receptions (85) and receiving yards (1,013) and scored four touchdowns.

New England is now likely to be in the market for a No. 1 receiver. Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, and DeMario Douglas are the team's top remaining receivers.
