Eagles acquire Greenard from Vikings, hand him 4-year, $100M extension

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick, the teams announced Friday.

Greenard is also signing a four-year, $100-million extension that includes $50 million fully guaranteed, his agents told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Minnesota has reportedly been open to trading Greenard since early March due to salary-cap issues. Greenard was also seeking a new contract, as he had little guaranteed money left.

Greenard missed five games last season due to a shoulder injury but recorded 38 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, and 3.5 sacks in 12 contests. He also led all Vikings edge rushers in pressures (41) and pressure rate (15.8%).

The 28-year-old joined Minnesota on a four-year, $76-million deal in 2024 after a four-year run with the Houston Texans. Greenard posted 12 sacks and 69 pressures in his first season with the Vikings, the seventh-most among all pass-rushers in the league that campaign, according to Next Gen Stats.

Greenard will join an Eagles edge-rusher room that includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and Arnold Ebiketie. Jaelan Phillips, whom the Eagles acquired at the trade deadline last year, signed a four-year, $120-million contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. Philly will receive a third-round compensatory pick in 2027 for Phillips signing elsewhere.

By trading Greenard, Minnesota frees up $12.25 million of cap space in 2026, according to Spotrac. However, the Vikings added to their defensive front Thursday by drafting Caleb Banks 18th overall.
