Chargers HC McCoy implores fans for support Sunday vs. Chiefs
To capture the final wild-card spot in the AFC, the San Diego Chargers not only need to overcome the 11-4 Kansas City Chiefs, but need both the Miami Dolphins, and defending champion Baltimore Ravens to lose.
With the Chargers seemingly needing all the help they can possibly get, Head Coach Mike McCoy is imploring the fans to provide even more.
McCoy was unhappy with a mixture of crowd support in their win over the Oakland Raiders Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium, and has requested, via the San Diego Union-Tribune, a stronger backing.
"We need our largest, loudest — however you want to say it — fan support this week," McCoy said. "This is what it all comes down to. It comes down to the last game of the season. So as the fans, we’re asking you as an organization, we need as many Charger fans in that stadium. As much of our colors and our colors only, please."
According to ESPN.com, the Chargers, 4-3 at home, average nearly 64,000 fans per game at Qualcomm Stadium - which ranks 22nd in the league. But, with 3,500 tickets unsold for Sunday's game, a local television blackout remains likely.
